Training Opportunities

Teaching fitness classes is a rewarding and popular choice of career for all kinds of people.  Whatever type of class you want to teach, the Exercise, Movement and Dance Partnership has a training course to meet your needs.

Don't Just Do it Don’t just do it, teach it!

The entry qualification training course is the CYQ Level 3 Certificate in Advanced Fitness Instructing, which is a nationally recognised qualification for teachers of exercise, movement and dance awarded by the CYQ (Central YMCA Qualifications).  It has been specially designed to provide comprehensive training in exercise, movement and dance for those wanting to offer an alternative to gym based fitness programmes.

The qualification affords access to the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at Level 3 Advanced Fitness Instructor. Courses are being run throughout the country,

Return to Teaching

Have you been a Registered Keep Fit Teacher in the past and now interested in returning to Registered Teacher Status?

We have a Return to Teaching programme specifically designed for former exercise, fitness, movement and dance teachers who would like to start teaching again.  We recognise that everyone is different and the best route for you will not only depend upon the level of experience you had prior to stopping, and the number of years you have been out of teaching, but also the time and location of the training.  Follow this link for more about how to return to teaching.

Do any of the following comments sound like you?

I’d like a part time teaching job

Teaching movement and dance is an ideal way to fit teaching around your current commitments. It gives you the flexibility to teach in the day time, evening or even weekends.  Whatever your circumstances we can train you.

“My life took an unexpected turn and I found myself being the sole provider with three boys to bring up. I turned to my KFA qualifications as a career. I now work for two colleges and have several classes. This gives me flexibility with school holidays and I don’t have to leave the children with child minders. I am now more confident, self-sufficient and financially sound and working in a job I love”

Teacher of Adults and Children and Young People

I love movement and dance

We can train you to pass on your love of movement and dance to a wide variety of people. Whether you want to teach adults, older adults or children and young people, we have the course for you. The dance side of the qualification will allow you to be as creative in your teaching as you want to be.

I would like a change of career or I’m looking to return to work

The great thing about all of our teaching qualifications is that it opens up doors anywhere in the community and/or education.

  • Teaching adults – set up your own community based classes, be your own boss

  • Teaching older adults – work with national partnerships like Age Concern, Community Sports Partnerships to provide classes in the community

  • Teaching children and young people – you may be a Teaching Assistant – why not qualify as a teacher of movement and dance to children and young people

  • Teaching Chair Based Exercise to Older Adults – an essential qualification for anyone looking for a career in residential or care home settings working to maintain mobility in the frail elderly or less active

I'm retiring early but want to keep active

A number of people who take our courses do so because they are taking early retirement but don’t just want to STOP.  After training, you have the freedom to build your own working pattern.  The teaching keeps you active and alert, and provides an essential social activity for the community.  You will wonder why you did not do it earlier.
