Returning to KFA Registered Teacher Status
Have you been a Registered Keep Fit Teacher in the past and now interested in returning to Registered Teacher Status?
- Do you enjoy your Keep Fit class but miss teaching?
- Worried you may have left it too long?
The KFA/EMDP have a Return to Teaching programme specifically designed for former KFA exercise, fitness, movement and dance teachers who would like to start teaching again. We recognise that everyone is different and the best route for you will not only depend upon the level of experience you had prior to stopping, and the number of years you have been out of teaching, but also the time and location of the training.
First Steps:
To complete any of these programmes, you must be a current member of the Keep Fit Association. Once you have completed all your training, you will need to supply a copy of a current First Aid Certificate in order to affiliate as a teacher. The attached pdf gives full details of the various routes:
Route 1 Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
If you have been out of teaching for less than three years you will need to provide evidence on your training card that complies with the current requirement of CPD hours for that period. If you don't have your training card, or need to make up these hours, your Regional Training Secretary will be able to help you.
Route 2 Return to Teaching Programme
This programme is available to teachers who have been out of teaching for more than three years but less than ten years: It consists of formatively assessed written and practical work supported by a local trainer on a one to one basis. The programme can be started at any time. Cost £190, plus the KFA Teachers Handbook @ £27.50
Contact KFA/EMDP (01403 266000) to register your interest in this programme or Maureen Watson (details below) for more information. To apply please complete the application form linked here. (Link)
Route 3 Return to Teaching Course
This is a 5 day Refresher and Update course which will lead to reinstatement of your Registered Teacher status, Courses run wherever and whenever there are at least 6 students committed to attend.
If you have not taught an exercise, fitness, movement or dance class for ten years or more, you will need to apply to the KFA National Training
& Qualifications Committee for a decision on the best way forward. Speak to the National Training Secretary or e-mail her
and she will assist you with your options.
